“Mistaken Identities”: The Guantanamo Bay prison and the American war in Afghanistan (Crossspost)

Bism Allah

I wrote this article in late summer 2022, but for various reasons only had it published at my Afghan Eye friends’ site yesterday. It takes the examples of various mishaps in the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison – with prisoners often brought in on the flimsiest reasons, and in some cases released with equal ignorance – and its relation with the United States’ war in Afghanistan. I argue that the prison is more about intimidation toward any potential enemies than it is about either justice or America’s security.
